Irish bookie paying off Obama Victory a bit early

October 16th, 2008

Although it is not a sport, an irish bookie is paying off folks who bet that Obama would win the election a bit early. I personally think stuff like this could pay off to jink the Obama campaign is off to a ridiculous bit of steam.

The race is over as far as Ireland’s biggest bookmaker is concerned.
Paddy Power PLC says it is so sure Barack Obama will win the U.S. presidential election next month that it paid off Thursday on all bets it had taken backing the Democratic candidate. It said it shelled out more than euro1 million, about $1.35 million.

“We declare this race well and truly over and congratulate all those who backed Obama—your winnings await you,” the company said in a statement.

Paddy Power has a long tradition of winning free publicity by paying off early, particularly on political contests—and it also has a recent record of getting the result spectacularly wrong.

All you betting junkies will just have to wait until November 5th to find out if this really is the outcome or if this stupid bookie just lost a windfall of cash because he now has to pay off both sides of the bet.

NFL due for a huge scoring weekend according to bookies

September 25th, 2008

The analysts have spoken. And i am in total disagreement. I believe it will be a wildly uneventful scoring weekend with more of the same and perhaps more focus on defenses than earlier in the season. Expect the high scorers to be limited and very few suprises.

Thats´my take. Lets see what the experts have to say:

Online sportsbook customers and sports betting enthusiasts will be in store for a wild weekend of NFL betting action. NFL betting lines are bulging as two of the week’s hottest bets have opened up, the Redskins vs. Cowboys matchup and the Packers vs. Buccaneers matchup.

Washington Redskins (+11) @ Dallas Cowboys (-11)

The NFL’s most storied rivalry will be rekindled on Sunday, which will bring forth one of the NFL football picks of the week. Tony Romo and his crew have been in high gear since Week 1, and haven’t had any trouble in putting points on the board and covering NFL football spreads thus far.

Marion Barber has been an absolute wrecking machine, torching the Packers for 142 yards last week, and has looked as unstoppable as ever on the goal line.

Lance Armstrong Returns, and the oddsmakers weigh in

September 25th, 2008

Lance Armstrong announced his return to the cycling world and i am sure that bookies were busy taking bets on his odds of winning the 2009 Tour De France. Personally I wouldnt bet against him that is for damn sure.

I am uncertain of the actual odds but this time around he will face public scrutiny, scrutiny from antidoping agencies and from news media. This would be his most challenging task since well defeating cancer. Which I believe is the whole point of staging a comeback.

To promote cancer awareness and research. For that you have to applaud the man… And bet on him!

I like to take a look at what Sports Handicappers have to say. One of them I really enjoy following is Joe Duffy. Check out his description of his site:Sports betting blog with sports handicapping picks from the best sports handicappers, pregame betting information, sports handicapping articles, links to live odds, free picks, sportsbook information and more. All pro gamblers go to this betting blog before placing a bet.

I like to get a general feel of what others are saying so I generally check out a few other blogs as well before making my pick on gameday. However I have noticed Joe Duffy to be a reliable source of information.

Pete Rose, the ugly face of sports betting

August 15th, 2008

For many years I stayed away from Sports Betting in general largely because it had a foul taste to it when i thought about it.

Largely because of the Pete Rose scandal. He was one hero I looked up to in baseball that pretty much ruined the entire sport for me.

Pete Rose was banished from baseball for allegedly illegal activity involving betting on games he played, and later managed in. This fact alone left a bitter pill in my throat that lingers ever so gently even today.

What is sports betting

August 15th, 2008

Sports betting is the general activity of predicting sports results by making a wager on the outcome of a sporting event. Perhaps more so than other forms of gambling, the legality and general acceptance of sports betting varies from nation to nation.

I have been interested in sports betting since i was a kid. I generally have been very good at predicting big games and have a 70% record on predictng Denver Broncos games in my lifetime if you exclude Super Bowls.

On this site I will take you through the process of becoming an expert in sports betting. Sport by sport.
